The purpose of the Homebuyers’ Assistance Program is to assist low-moderate income families in purchasing affordable housing within the city limits. The program has two components: 1) educational Homebuyers’ Counseling Workshop, which is free and accessible to everyone. Workshops are held every six-eight weeks and are presented by a HUD-approved counseling agency. 2) Assistance Loan for payment of normal closing costs associated with the purchase of a single family home. Eligible homebuyers may be granted up to $4,500 in the form of a deferred loan, secured by a subordinate lien on the property. These funds are available through the Community Development Block Grant Program in the form of a five (5) year forgivable loan and are provided at the time of closing.
